Course Advice for Re-enrolment

The information on this page is updated during second semester.

The School of Mathematics and Statistics offers the following events and resources to help students plan their subjects for second and third year.

All students who are planning to do any mathematics and statistics subjects and especially those who plan to major in Mathematics and Statistics are encouraged to obtain course advice through one or more of the options below.

Course planning information session

When: 1:00-2.15pm Tuesday 10th October 2017
Where: Lyle lecture theatre
What: Presentation about major, specialisation and subject choices; question and answer time.
Relevant for:

  • Students seeking general information about level-2 and level-3 mathematics and statistics subjects;
  • Students seeking general information about specialisations within the Mathematics and Statistics major and on the Data Science, Computational Biology and Mathematical Physics majors.

Individual course advice

When: All year, with additional staff availability in October.
What: Individual consultation with course advisors.
Relevant for: any undergraduate students planning to take mathematics and statistics subjects

For appointments in October: Students can make an appointment online with a course adviser from the School of Mathematics and Statistics.
A link to the online booking system will be provided here at the start of October.

For appointments at other times of the year: ask at the Mathematics and Statistics General Office, ground floor, Peter Hall building, for the name and location of a relevant course advisor.

Course Advice for Undergraduates booklet

What: Information about mathematics and statistics subjects, majors and specialisations.
Relevant for: any undergraduate students planning to take mathematics and statistics subjects

Hard-copies can be obtained from the School of Mathematics and Statistics General Office, ground floor, Peter Hall building, or at the course planning information session.

The booklet contains information about:

  • The Mathematics and Statistics, Computational Biology, Data Science and Mathematical Physics majors of the Bachelor of Science
  • The specialisations within the Mathematics and Statistics major or Diploma in Mathematical Sciences
  • Recommended mathematics and statistics subject choices to complement other majors
  • Information about individual subjects offered by the School of Mathematics and Statistics
The booklet is updated in October each year with information for the following year.

What: Poster displays of course plans and career profiles
Relevant for:

  • Students seeking general information about specialisations within the Mathematics and Statistics major, and Computational Biology, Data Science and Mathematical Physics majors;
