Prospective students
Mathematics and statistics is important in industry, commerce and science. Thus, as well as being a major in its own right, our subjects are an important component of many other areas of major study. In particular they are included in the Bachelors of Science, Biomedicine, Environments and Commerce (Actuarial studies). In addition mathematics and statistics can be studied as part of the Bachelors of Arts, Commerce, Environments and Music as breadth subjects. Please follow the links to our recommendations for VCE subjects and International Baccalaureate subjects.
Majoring in Mathematics and Statistics
Students enrolled in a Bachelor of Science may choose Mathematics and Statistics as their major.
A new course, the Diploma in Mathematical Sciences is planned to commence in 2009 provided CRICOS accreditation is obtained for the course. The Diploma will only be available in combination with a new generation degree. The Diploma will be available to most students in the new generation degrees provided their area of major studies is not Mathematics and Statistics.
For information about our subjects please explore the pages under New Generation Undergraduate Students. For information on entry requirements for each degree see the main University of Melbourne page.
